Confirmation

Confirmation Class

’23-24 Confirmation Program
Aldersgate & Beth Eden United Methodist Church
(Sep. 10/2023 to April 28th/2024 – Sunday classes)

Introduction
Confirmation marks the commitment of a person’s life to Jesus Christ, and to Christ’s mission in the world through the church.  It is the beginning of a vital relationship with Christ and the church, not an end to Sunday school or worship attendance.  Our congregation’s Confirmation program is designed to prepare young people for that commitment.

Expectations
The membership vow asks Confirmands to support the church with their “prayers, presence, gifts and service.”  Young persons cannot be expected to make this vow without experiencing what this means.  We consider participation in church life and ministry to be essential preparation for confirmation vows.
  • Prayers | Students will be encouraged to develop a habit of daily devotions, including praying for the church and its ministry.
  • Presence | Students are expected to be present both in class and in worship(online or in-person). 1 online-worship or 1 in-person worship per month are recommended.  Students need to turn in 10 Sunday Morning Report forms (Not included other church visits) over the 8 months confirmation experience.
  • Gifts | Students are asked to bring weekly offering to the class. Stewardship will be discussed in class.
  • Service | Options for service include ushering, liturgist, participation in workdays, etc. Each student has a goal of obtaining a minimum of 30 service points. (20 individual service works and 10 group service work)
After the above requirements have been met, youth will be invited to individually consider their decision for Christ and His church.  Each student will meet with pastor Sarah individually.  The decision of the student will be honored; a student will not be confirmed if that student does not feel that he or she is ready to make a commitment to Christ and the church.

Schedule
It will be distributed on Sunday Sep. 10th Confirmation Info. Meeting (11:30am Aldersgate UMC)

Mentors
Each student will have an adult mentor.  Students will be involved in the selection of their mentor and may nominate additional mentors. (Same gender and no relatives in AUMC & BUMC congregation (must be a member)  Please pray about some possible mentors and give three possible names to pastor Sarah before December of 2023. Email is the best way to contact her. ( ) or call(text) her cell(815- 212-5166). The mentor program is designed to give the student an additional opportunity to talk about his or her faith with an adult outside of the family and the classroom.  Specific discussion questions will be given to the student and the mentor.  Reports on these discussions will be turned in.

Confirmation Sunday
For those students who make the decision to confirm their faith, Confirmation Sunday will be on Sunday, First Sunday of May (May 5th), 2024.  There will be Confirmation Ceremony and Confirmands’ faith testimony.  Please mark this date on your calendar now and circulate it among your family to prevent conflicts. The more details will be shared later.
